MSN – Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Programs

Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioners (AGNP) are advanced practice nurses who hold a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a clinical focus on treating people from adolescence to late adulthood. This specialized MSN curriculum is designed to prepare you for advanced nursing practice with courses in communications, professional development, natural sciences, and social and behavioral sciences.

To work as an AGNP, you’ll need to decide whether you want to help patients in a primary care or acute care capacity, and pass the corresponding certification examination. This exam tests your clinical knowledge of young adults, adults, and the elderly.

Graduates of an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) program often practice in community and hospital-based primary care clinics and in long-term care settings. Those who wish to pursue a career as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP), will work in settings such as emergency rooms or urgent care centers. An MSN in Adult-Gerontology provides both the training and the leadership skills necessary to qualify for employment.

An MSN in adult-gerontology often takes about two years to complete, depending on the program. The programs in this list are offered in both hybrid and traditional formats, with flexible scheduling, allowing you to work towards your degree on your timetable.
